SPOTS, LINES AND SURFACE

We have detected two main problems in this part of the city:

1 Lack of open and green spaces for pedestrians (this is a very dense area with too much traffic).

2 Lack of activities that can improve the zone and make it more vital.

Our proposal is to create "spots" (green spaces for open air activities), joined with a system of "green lines" (pedestrian streets full of vegetation) and water, creating a "surface".

SPOTS
Spots will take different forms and will be located at two levels: ground and upper floors. They will connect courtyards with the street, contributing to increased air movement and bringing more activity. We have located spots on existing empty spaces or by demolishing some useless constructions. We have defined these spots below by name and activities, in order to give them character.

1 The Observatory: a private space which can be used as a terrace by the elderly or children. Vegetation will act as an environmental filter for the roof. Solar panels will collect solar energy and act as shading devices.

2 North garden: a private space, used by pedestrians or local people to sit for a while or play.

3 The passage: a semi-public space, full of vegetation, that helps to join the North garden with the courtyard. A small market can take place here.

4 The Courtyard: a private space with a large water pool for community use.

5 The small plazza: a semi-public space at the corner of blocks with coffee shops.

6 Theatre: a semi-public space for use by the community, where activities such as open-air theatre, cinema, dances, exhibitions, etc., can take place.

7 South garden: a private space for pedestrians and local people to sit or play.

8 The Square: A public space and attraction point for the tourist. We propose a flexible element such as canvas to shelter the activities of the square.

LINES
We have three main lines: public, semi-public and private connecting the spots. The public line connects Victoria Square with Green Park. This is the longest pedestrian street and we are also adding a new element here: water. The semi-public line or leisure line is where we have located the small market, the cafes and the theatre. The private line joins the Observatory  with the North garden and the Courtyard. Three kinds of vegetation are planned to differentiate the main pedestrian street, the green system and the ones inside the courtyards.
